New Trends on Smart Phone Markets in 2020
High Refresh Rates
Looking through the reports, 2020 has been
the year of high refresh rate displays and high end Cameras. Normally we have
been using 60fps refresh rate on our devices. Eventually 90hz display became
trending which now leads to 120Hz display too. As processor’s capacity is
increasing tremendously and only way to show its potential is by high refresh
rate displays as it imitates being quick which gives a feeling of being fast
and smoother than ever.
Phones featuring High refresh rate of 90Hz :
- Realme 6 & Realme 6 Pro
- Mi 10
- Realme X50 Pro
- Realme X2 Pro
- OnePlus 7T series
- Nubia Red Magic 3s
- OnePlus 7 Pro
- Reno 3 Pro
Cameras
Not many years ago, one front camera and one rear camera was all we needed but the trend is changing in such a way that even normal products feature at most 2 front cameras for depth detection and atleast 3 cameras on back and even goes upto 7 rear cameras. Usually the rear camera features different type of lenses. Ultra Wide Angle Lens, Normal Lens, Telephoto lens, Macro Lens, etc. So what we are getting is a capability of capturing photos in different perspectives.
Screen to body ratio
We can see different forms of implementations of front
camera as companies are trying their best to give massive screen to body ratio.
Some are using pop-up camera models and some companies are using hole-punch displays
which definitely provides new experience on smartphone usage as you get a
massive displays with minimal bezels around. Another great surprise in on the
way as big smartphone companies like Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, etc are developing under
display cameras which is quite amazing.
Fingerprint Sensors
Another trend over the market now is under-display fingerprints
which is definitely cool. But as it is configured using optics sensor under the
display it is slower and less efficient than previous generation fingerprint
sensors. Now the flagships are usually featuring fingerprint sensors on the
switch and that’s kind of cool and faster than under-display setup.
Folding Phones
Well, we have seen the prototypes of folding phones from Samsung, Motorola, Huawei and flex. It has given us the hope of new innovations but the releases till date doesn't have good reviews as they are heavily exposed and along with that the way hinge works. It has not got final good implementation till date but we can hope for it.
Under Display Camera - Not released for retail
In order to implement this design the display has to be translucent i.e. partially transparent. Moreever it has to display the pixels on that blockade that covers the camera. We hope to see it in near future.
